The Office of the Special Prosecutor, has frozen all assets of the late Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie aka Sir John, a former chief executive officer of the Forestry Commission.
A source at the Office of the Special Prosecutor confirmed to asaaseradio that this forms part of investigations into the acquisition of state lands and properties that were contained in Sir John’s Will.
Last month, the Office of the Special Prosecutor served notice that it has begun full investigations into suspected corruption and corruption-related offences in the alleged and unlawful acquisition of state lands at the Achimota forest enclave and the Ramsar site by the former CEO of the Forestry Commission.
A statement signed by the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, indicates that Sir John including other persons will be investigated.
The special prosecutor has urged the Ministry of Land and Natural Resources to fully cooperate with the OSP in the investigations since they will play an important part in the probe.
The decision to launch the investigation follows the publication of a will, purported to be by Sir John. The ten-page document has been circulating on social media and follows an affirmation by the government that it will protect the forest reserve in Achimota.

The freeze should not be limited to Sir John alone. What we are hearing about Sir john's properties may be a tip of the iceberg compared to others. The special prosecutor should write to all political appointees to declare their assets from 1992 to date i.e. The nature of the assets, when they were acquired. A few people are capitalizing in the name of democracy to create, loot and share. We know all the politicians before they became ministers, MMDCEs and CEO's. Some were unemployed before their parties came to power. Having been given appointments they suddenly became mansions and V8 owners overnight. How can someone who had no house of his own in his own hometown, a tenant in someone's house on being appointed a deputy minister in 2017 all of a sudden built a house which has become a tourist attraction in his hometown. A know of a current minister who was staying in a chamber and hall in his father's house, fetching water from a drum with a bucket in hand, goes into a common bathroom for all, within a matter of 6 months such a person puts up a storey building with many cars parked in his residence. We know them and they know we know them. How can one use less than 4 years to acquire properties your father and mother could not acquire all their lives, not by Winning lotto, not by virtue of any big qualification, but simply because that person is a minister, CEO or MMDCE. What is it that a minister, MP, CEO, MMDCE do in their offices such that their salaries are higher than any other worker in Ghana's public service. With these unjustified fat salaries, they don't pay for water, electricity, fuel, accommodation, transportation. Some are even provided with foodstuffs in their homes, haba, what kind of country is this. How do you expect people who don't experience certain problems to solve those problems for you, it can't happen thus Ghana's current predicament. A clear case of George Owell's "***barred word*** farm ". If political positions were by examinations, how many of them will qualify? Tampiiri
