Bashiru Hayford, coach of Ghana female national team, the Black Queens said they are ready to re-write history by winning the 11th edition of the upcoming 2018 African Women Cup of Nation (AWCON).
Coach Hayford addressing a press conference ahead of the team’s Group A opener against Algeria, said the tournament was an opportunity for the Queens to make themselves and the nation proud by winning the trophy for the first time.
“We have done so much in terms of preparation for this tournament and I can say we are ready for this tournament.
“The team is ready to re-write history for themselves and Ghana as well, being the host nation, there is the host and win notion and we have to try and live to it”.
Elizabeth Addo, captain for the side, who reiterated the team’s desire of winning the tournament said, the team had picked up well from their international friendlies and was ready for the task ahead.
“We have gradually picked up from our last games and I know when the tournament starts come Saturday, we would make Ghana proud” she said.
The eight nation tournament would run from 17th November, 2018 to 1st December, 2018 at the Accra Sports Stadium and Cape Coast Sports Stadium.
