The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, this afternoon, held a meeting with the Minister for Youth and Sports, the President of the GFA Normalisation Committee, and the Chair of the Management Committee of the Senior National Football Team, the Black Stars. The meeting, a continuation of the regular meetings the President holds with them, discussed, amongst others, the preparations being made towards AFCON 2019, and how to end Ghana’s AFCON trophy drought.
President Akufo-Addo, subsequently, also spoke on the telephone with Asamoah Gyan, and informed him of the considerable national disquiet over his decision to retire from the Black Stars. The President urged him, in the national interest, to rescind his decision to retire from the Black Stars, and make himself available for selection by Coach Kwasi Appiah.

the law of karma right?. i hope gyan will respect the coach decision. you took it right from esseien and sulley, you even lucky dede is next taking from you as the senior most after you. you were a kid compare to sulley, esseien, john mensah , paintsil etc but you robbed them by same coach, now you crying, hope it isnt a cry of betrayal but crying for you know the sabbotage a captain can do so you afraid. is time the no.onsense stop, prez calling football players taking $10,000 and ignoring gh700 unpaid employed graduates?. is time asamoah takes the general captain, lower himself, dede also agree his end time will also come and should complain but sensibly, i hope the manager or the most stu.p.id NORMALIZATION team except kuffour gives a clear captain-ship positions like 1. dede, 2. mensah, 3. boye, 4.afful etc so once the senior isnt there, there is automatic captain rather to this no.nses of meeting needless players sinking the economy
Mr. President this is totally unnecessary. Allow the coach to take his own decisions so that Ghanaians can hold him accountable for it. No one is saying Gyan has not done his bit for the team but it is time for him to move on for new faces to come. New faces means a renewed team spirit and team cohesion. We are tired of the same old faces without achieving any tangible results. If he wants to retire he can do so. The national team is not his private property so allow him to retire.
You take away the authority of the coach, reverse his decisions and weaken him and yet expect him to lead the team to success. Why don't we leave him alone so we can hold him to account?
Asamoah Djan has done his best for Ghana and we appreciate him very well. He is now past his prime and need to give way to younger players to takeover. The coach is the man in charge and he should be firm but consultative and genuie and fair minded. He should do what it takes to bring the cup and not repeat the mistake of playing good players from bench believing that if opponents become tire then he will bring them on.
when andre ayew and his brother Jordan resigned from playing for the blackstars, then president john mahama called on them to rescind their decision this is not new.
His EXcellency Please leave the coach to do his job Asamoah Gyan dont have Form and his dedication to the Team is BOGUS. DONT LET PEOLPE START TO THINK BECAUSE HE GAVE YOU MONEY FOR YOUR CAMPAGN AND YOU WANT HIM STILL TO BE CAPTAIN OF THE NATIONAL TEAM. STAY OUT OF THIS PLEASE
Asamoah Gyan is gone past his prime and it is a basic fact in soccer lately that, the game needs young and athletic players who can play and run for 90+ minutes. The call from the president is therefore unwarranted. Does it mean asamoah Gyan will never retire from the game? Even the players who won the AFCON for Ghana in the past have all retired. Please the guy has done bit and we thank him for his meritorious service but all we are saying now is we don't want him in the Ghana squad for the 2019 AFCON. I am just wondering if the British prime minister has the luxury of time to tell the England coach who to, and not to take to a tournament
Ghana is trophyless for 37 yrs because we're ingratitude and ungrateful. players offer their services to us and whenever they get to their challenging stage in their career, we soon forget their good works and vilify them as if their are our enemies. until we treat our snr players the way Westerners do, we ll continue to lose cups. I find it difficult to understand it and it's our media that are behind all these player maligning.
Akuffo Addo dey make I go bore am. u want him to come back and cause us more pains? Nana pls for the sake of us who are not npp ple but voted for u ask him keep his decision. asamoah gyan is bad luck and i want to watch this taunament in peace not in pieces.
THIS IS A BAD PRECEDENCE,SO MUST THE PRESIDENT INTERVENE IS THIS TOO?THEN WHAT IS THE USE OF THE SPORTS MINISTER CAN'T HE SOLVE THIS PROBLEM...ALSO IS THE PRESIDENT GOING TO INTERVENE FOR OTHER PLAYERS WHO DECIDES TO LEAVE THE NATIONAL TEAM OR OTHER DISCIPLINE......WE ARE REALLY A JOKE AS A COUNTRY.
