The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has called on FIFA to dismiss South Africa’s match-fixing protest because their allegations are baseless.
The world football governing body, FIFA, has confirmed that it has received a complaint from the South African Football Association (SAFA) over Bafana Bafana’s 1-0 loss in its 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Ghana in Cape Coast last weekend.
“FIFA has received a complaint from the South African FA in relation to this matter and will review it. Please understand we cannot comment further at this stage,” FIFA said in communiqué to the media.
Responding officially to the protest, the Ghana FA said South Africa should rather be punished for “bringing the brand of the World Cup and Ghana’s senior team into disrepute”.
The GFA argued that South Africa sent “the respected FIFA Disciplinary Committee on a fool’s errand or fishing” by only making allegations without any evidential claims in their initial protest letter to FIFA.
The Ghanaians have requested that the South Africans be punished “severely”.
