The acting General Secretary of the New Patriotic party (NPP), John Boadu says President John Dramani Mahama’s request to debate Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo has added up to numerous invitations flooded his desk for a similar event ahead of December 7, elections.
But he noted that, his flagbearer is focused on his campaign rather than debate his political opponents, mainly, the incumbent president.
“We have better things doing. I have received numerous requests for debate from radio stations among others, but we will not let that distract us from our campaign. The NDC ignored the major presidential debate so why are they calling for one now?” he questioned.
President John Mahama has been in the news recently calling on the NPP flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo to come and debate him publicly on the issues affecting the nation.
President Mahama reiterated his calls for a debate with Nana Akufo-Addo, saying it would afford both parties an opportunity to set the record straight on a number of issues including the state of the economy.
President Mahama suggested that the NPP was simply misinforming the electorate with propaganda and his challenge would ensure a statistics based debate on the economy.
However, John Boadu in an interview with NEAT FM’s morning show, ‘Ghana Montie’ noted that, his flagbearer will not be preoccupied by President Mahama’s call.
“We will not waste our time on him [President Mahama]. We are on the grounds campaigning,” he told host Kwesi Aboagye.

JM now wants to debate? I thought he said that the IEA debate platform was u.seless? Any good political analyst knows that the JM is losing. The overwhelming consensus is that JM must go and hence the desperate attempt to have a debate. Compare Mahama's body language this year to 4 years ago. Isn't it obvious that he lacks confidence? Sadly once he loses this election his political career will come to the end as most of the true NDC members are only obliging because he has power. Will the Anyidoho's be following him around if he is not in power? Nana Addo, don't fall into the trap of having any debate with JM. Follow Buhari's electoral strategy- No debate. JM seems to be like a con artist; all talk no action.
RUNNING AWAY FROM THE TRUTH. BRING YOUR 170 OR SO POINTS TO THE DEBATE AND WATCH HOW YOU WILL BE HUMILIATED.
No No No! John Boadu, you should know that you're engaged in a political struggle. It is not a chieftancy affair or some kind of dictatorial position where there are no opponents. You cannot ignore the opponent!! You must debate him/her especially in a democratic process like the Ghanaian elections! John Mahama is the current president and in the position your party strives to capture for Nana Addo. How serious do you expect people to take you when you act so arrogantly like this? If you need the vote of everybody, you definitely don't get mine making such snobbish, arrogant and disrespectful decisions. I don't like boycotts and absence when I feel my voice has to be represented in any process. This is something the NPP must learn. We are in a political process and not a personal struggle for any individual. We must be seen to be taking the right decisions and doing things that are in the interest of everyone. If Nana Addo wants to be president, he should represent the will of the people where ever he maybe called to do so.
Nana Addo cannot debate John Mahama in anyway. Nana Addo will flop miserably in any debate any time, any day and anywhere. Give Nana Addo all the questions and answers and let him rehearse all the answers, yet he would perform abysmally. The NPP is trying to shield his deficiencies just to avoid total embarrassment to their half-baked Presidential candidate. At times I listen to John Boadu and his likes and say to myself; everything will come to an end come Dec 7. We can't wait.
Mahama b3y3no pasaaaa
Running away from debate but want to be a president at all cost. Grandpa desperately in need of the presidency so he can go and be relaxing in London at the expense of tex payers money. Stop running away from the debate! come out and defend your falsehood.
We won't waste our time on any non***barred word*** debate
No debate today nor tomorrow. e dey pain Mahama & NDC tell your own NDC truth is all we care CHANGE IS ON ITS WAY
We can't debate incompetent man like JM.
John Badu , you are leading Nana into a ditch. Why will he run away from this golden opportunity to confront the president in a debate? everything he tells Ghanaians now will be laughable if he keep running away from this debate
